Where to eat: restaurants, taverns and ouzeri of Lipsi

On the island of Lipsi most of the hotels offers self catering/accommodation only, so the restaurants, tavernas, bars and ouzeri are always very busy and animate. Even being a small island offers a good choice of places to eat and taste local products. In the morning is a must a visit  to the main bakery Oikos Kairi that everyone calls simply “the oven”. It is located near the harbor and the small park. In addition to fourteen types of fresh bread, you can find many homemade desserts such as apple pie, the bugattsa with vanilla cream and pougakkia (typical sweet Lipsi). Not to forget simple croissant or spinakopita (with spinach) and tiropita (with feta cheese). If you find a place on the terrace stop to take a cup of coffee or cappuccino.

Restaurants On the beach

During the day, most tourists flock to the beautiful beaches so many taverns in the town are open only in the evening. For a quick lunch you can choose restaurant taven by Kosta on the beach at Plati Gialos or Dilaila by George at  Katsadia bay. Both are simple places located on the beach, the menu includes good Greek dishes and fresh fish. In high season they are open in the evening until late, especially Dilaila that is populated place for after-dinner drink.

If you are in the town, a great solution for a quick lunch is Steki Tou Stamatis a small Greek taverna in the main square of Lipsi, near the Town Hall. The owner Stamatis and his wife Cristina, prepare probably the best gyros and souvlaki sandwiches of the island.

Before dinner, is a must to visit one of the ouzeri located in the square always very popular with locals. Together with ouzo are served small meze (appetizers).

For the evenings

Although ouzeri of the square are more features, we suggest you also try the meze of local Rock Cafe. Try some sea urchins and other fresh delicacies caught by the owner. This restaurant, frequented mainly by young and open late, will surprise you with excellent appetizers to accompany your glass of ouzo.

To Pefko is one of the restaurants along the beach, an ideal place for a special dinner out. The environment is very nice with tables set up on the different terraces that offer views of the sea and port. Nikos, the friendly owner will help you to choose the best. Recommend dishes like eggplant rools with cheese. saganaki, greek salad Pefko, the best mousaka, peppers stuffed with cheese, lamb in red sauce and much more.

Yannis restaurant is located on the opposite side at the bottom of the port of Lipsi is a bit out of the center but it is always very popular and appreciated by locals and those who return to Lipsi for years. The atmosphere is very friendly and while the decor, different from the classical greek taverna with seaside sittings, The kitchen is simply and excellent, includes both meat and fish.

You can’t miss an evening at Manolis’ tastes, an excellent restaurant in a beautiful atmosphere in the narrow streets of old Lipsi. In the menu, choices curated in a unique and excellent way by Chef Manoli Chiras, specialized in traditional cuisine presented in a unique and particular way. Ideal for meat lovers and also for lovers of fish and various traditional mezes. As meat some specialties, lamb with potatoes and lemon juice, suckling pig with honey and thyme and local buffalo.
