The Archipelago

Lipsi, the pearl of the Dodecanese, is an archipelago of islands located in the south-east of the Aegean Sea between the islands of Leros and Patmos. Its name comes from the largest island, namely Lipsi or Lipsos. It has an area of ​​16 square km and 36 km of coastline, therefore is extremely easy to know even on foot. Trekking, or simple walks, is very popular among tourists who spend their holidays in Lipsi. Lipsi is the only island of the archipelago to be inhabited while all the others, such as the beautiful Aspronisi, Kalapodia, Franco, Plavi and another twenty or so islands, are extremely small and uninhabited, ideal for a boat trip.

Lipsos

Local people live in Lipsi town, this is the only inhabited center on the island. Here are concentrated also all the tourist facilities. Those who choose Lipsi for their holiday like above all to rediscover the simplicity of everyday life and to spend days under the sea and sun of this little paradise. There are no big all-inclusive hotels, but only small hotels, rent rooms and lots and lots of sea and beautiful nature!

Most of the men are fishermen and sailors who spend their days at the port preparing their nets on their colored boats. Among the inhabitants there are those who also deal with agriculture being Lipsi rich in olive trees and vineyards. Tourist season lasts only from mid-July to the end of August, a period during which the island is populated by many tourists, especially Italians and Greeks.

The climate

Therefore from April to November the island of Lipsi offers a Mediterranean climate of excellence that gives the possibility to fully enjoy the sea and the ideal sun for the holidays. How to get to and around Lipsi island

This island is very small, consequently, don’t have an airport. If you want to spend your holidays in this wonderful place, you need to fly to the nearest islands with an airport. For example, you can get to Leros, reaching it from Athens with scheduled flights. Or as alternative fly with direct flights to Kos International Airport and then reach Lipsi with ferries or catamaran.

Once in Lipsi, the best way to discover the island is just walking around. Alternatively, you can think of hiring a vehicle, maybe a bicycle or a scooter to reach the hidden places and fully enjoy this wonderful Greek island.

Around Lipsi island

When you arrive on Lipsi you will disembarks in its only port where ferries and hydrofoils dock. A little further on is the small Marina where the beautiful and colorful fishing boats and private boats are moored.

In the immediate vicinity of the city there is the beautiful beach of Lindou characterized by a very low and transparent water. Continuing along the road we arrive at Kambos, a much calmer cove than in Lindou which also offers a spectacular sea. The road continues towards Plati Gialos and after about 1 km there is an indication for the Κimissi tis Theotokou church which is located in the beautiful bay of Kimissi.

3 km away from the town is located the most beautiful beach on the island called Plati Gialos. This wonderful bay of Lipsi is undoubtedly the best known and most visited; the mere sight of this beach of white sand, and of its turquoise sea, takes your breath away.
