Complete the picture, Lindos bay which has a beautiful sandy beach equipped with colorful umbrellas that offer shelter from the scorching sun. Lindos Rhodes between history and breathtaking sunsets.<\/p>\n<h3>Lindos: history and scenic beauties<\/h3>\n<p>Above the modern town, <strong>the Acropolis of Lindos rises,<\/strong> a natural citadel fortified successively by the Greeks, the Romans, the Byzantines, the <span class=\"mw-redirect\">Knights of St John<\/span> and the Ottomans. This makes the site difficult to excavate and interpret archaeologically. The Acropolis offers spectacular views of the surrounding harbors and coastline. On the Acropolis of Lindos today parts of some very important buildings may still be seen. Among these, The Doric Temple of Athena Lindia with the table of offerings and the base of the cult statue of Athena. Morever, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greekislandsbooking.com\/en\/islands\/rodos\/opening-hours-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Propylaea of the Sanctuary and Hellenistic<\/a> and the well-known relief of a Rhodian trireme. This last cut into the rock at the foot of the steps leading to the acropolis.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Acropolis is surrounded<\/strong> by a Hellenistic wall contemporary with the Propylaea and the stairway leading to the entrance to the site.<\/p>\n<p>A Roman inscription says that the wall and square towers were repaired at the expense of Aelius Hagetor, the priest of Athena in the 2nd century AD. Built some time before 1317 on the foundations of older Byzantine fortifications, it was the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Palace_of_the_Grand_Master_of_the_Knights_of_Rhodes\"><span style=\"display: inline !important; float: none; background-color: #ffffff; color: #212529; cursor: text; font-family: -apple-system,BlinkMacSystemFont,'Segoe UI',Roboto,'Helvetica Neue',Arial,sans-serif,'Apple Color Emoji','Segoe UI Emoji','Segoe UI Symbol','Noto Color Emoji'; font-size: 16px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: left; text-decoration: none; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;\">the Castle of the Knights of St John<\/span><\/a>. The <b>Greek Orthodox Church of St John<\/b> dated 13th or 14th century was built on the ruins of a previous church. We don&#8217;t have many information about this earlier church, however probably dated back before the 6th century.<\/p>\n<p>This<strong> scenic beauty that you see from the Acropolis<\/strong> are the subject of the best post cards from the Greek islands. It produces itself from year to year thousands if not millions of shoots.
