Leros Island called also Artemis island, is a small Dodecanese island not very famous as international tourist destination, but very popular with those seeking authenticity of Greece islands far away from mass tourism. Positioned between the  islands of Kalymnos, Patmos and Lipsi is a medium-sized island, about 14 km long and very green, crossed by sweet and low hills covered with pine and eucalyptus trees, fertile fields and  olive trees.

The villages of of Leros are scattered along the high cliffs and coves. Here you will feel a genuine atmosphere of the simple islands life with positive combination of modernity , nature, history and culture. Leros is still undiscovered by mass tourism, probably this is one of the reasons why so many visitors are coming here year by year. Do not expect to find on Leros the same tourism that you will find in Mykonos or Santorini, the island of Leros is for rest and relaxation. Leros has many very picturesque and attractive villages lying on its beautiful coasts.

The Sun is one of the most appreciated characteristics od the island;  from April to November the island of Leros offers a Mediterranean climate of excellence that gives you the chance to enjoy the sea and sun. Throughout this period, during which the rains are very rare, the weather is always sunny and caressed by the Meltemi.You may run into a few hours of rain towards the end of September and October.

With approximately 9000 inhabitants Leros is quiet and peaceful place used as a naval base by Germans and Italians and as a prison for political dissidents during the Greek dictatorship. This was one of the reasons why was just recently open to tourism.The municipality includes the populated offshore islands of Pharmakonisi,  Levitha and Kinaros as well as several uninhabited islets.

The locals are still deeply attached to their land and the sea, the approach to tourism it is much conscientious, having had the opportunity to learn from the mistakes of other islands. Over the past 20 years, most of the tourists who come to spend their holidays in Leros are Italians as  Leros still preserves the influence of the italian colonization, but aslo many Scandinavians and Germans. You will find Leros alive during summer and winter due to the fact that many Greeks from the mainland living and working here.
