The island of Kalymnos is famous throughout the world for sea sponges and local sponge divers that risk their life collectiong this strange sea-animals. But despite the sponges, Kalymnos has many interesting features, but has always been less considered as tourist deatination because of its proximity to the bigger and developed tourist island of Kos. Failing to enhance and promote all its beauty that, once discovered, make it an extremely attractive destination.

Kalymnos will make you fall in love and return again and again to his people, beaches, beautiful sea and landscapes. It is a traditional Greek island and the love of the local people for this place can be seen in the cuisine, traditions, arhitecture or simply in the daily life. The landscape is characterized by a wild mountains that plunge into the blue of the sea, caves, hidden coves, villages  and an unpolluted beaches.

Located to the west of the Bodrum peninsula, between Kos and Leros, Kalymnos is the third largest island in the Dodecanese in population and the fourth largest ar dimensions. Also called Calino (in Italian) and Kilimni (in turkish), are part of the municipality also the islands of Pserimos and Telendos, which broke away in the earthquake of 554.

Arid and rocky has a very different landscape than the other nearby islands that are much lower and green. Its rocky walls, made Kalymnos protagonist of the world map of free-climbing that now attracts climbers from all over the world. Kalymnos is widely considered a sport climber´s paradise. It is surrounded by some of the finest limestone crags in the world, offering a huge range of climbing on slabs, big walls,overhangs and tufas to suit every level and style. It’s the ideal site to discover climbing or improve your technic.

The island of Kalymnos, with a population of about 16,000 inhabitants, is a difficult and hostile place to live. The survival  island's economy had always been tied to the sea and sea-sponges, but with the crisis of the trade of this particular marine product, Kalymnians were forced to emigrate to the United States or in Australia so the population dropped consideretly. In recent years, Kalymnos has sought to further exploit its natural beauty to attract tourists as much as possible. Thanks to tourism of the the climbers and treking lovers the island is visited throughout the year.
